Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a new Very Low Frequency (VLF) Naval Station of the Indian Navy.
The station, located at the Damagundam Reserve Forest in Vikarabad district in Telangana, will cover 2,900 acres and is expected to cost Rs 3,200 crore.

The high-tech VLF station is designed to enhance the Indian Navy’s communication capabilities, allowing for reliable and secure transmission over long distances.
Rajnath Singh highlighted its importance, noting that it will serve as a strategic asset, crucial for effective command and control in challenging maritime environments.
“Effective coordination between men and machines is becoming extremely important in view of the evolving methods of warfare,” the Defence Minister said while addressing the gathering.
He underscored that real-time communication between ships, submarines, and command centres is a decisive factor in military operations.
“Without real-time communication, we cannot gain an edge despite having adequate equipment or manpower,” Rajnath Singh added.
The Defence Minister also highlighted the importance of strong communication systems in complex military operations, stating that they are essential for timely decision-making and conveying orders to field units.
