Assam Government To Roll Out Zero-Premium Insurance For Government Employees; Life Coverage Up To Rs 1 Crore

In a significant move to support its workforce and ensure protection in cases of illness, death, or disability, the Assam Cabinet on Wednesday announced a comprehensive insurance policy for state government employees.

The announcement followed a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma late on Wednesday evening.

Assam Cabinet Approves New Insurance Scheme For Government Employees

The new scheme provides life and disability coverage at no premium cost to the employees. Under the scheme, state employees will receive Rs 10 lakh in life insurance coverage. In the event of accidental death, the coverage will increase to Rs 1 crore. The same amount will be offered for total disability, while partial disability will be covered with Rs 80 lakh.

“This comprehensive insurance coverage, Rs 1 crore for accidental death and permanent disability, Rs 80 lakh for partial disability, and an additional Rs 10 lakh for deaths due to illness — serves as a critical safety net for our employees and their families. These benefits are in addition to all other facilities provided by the state government,” the Chief Minister said.

He underscored that this initiative is designed to protect state employees who may suffer from accidental deaths or disabilities, whether permanent or partial, while on duty. The coverage extends to accidents caused by road mishaps, fires, floods, and other disasters.
