Assam: Probe Ordered Into Death Of Dhing Gang-Rape Accused

The Nagaon district administration in Assam, on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into the death of an accused in the Dhing gang-rape case.

The inquiry will be conducted by a special committee led by Additional Superintendent of Police Pallab Tamuli.

The decision to investigate comes after the accused reportedly died while trying to escape from police custody.

According to Assam Police, the accused attempted to flee and jumped into a roadside pond, where he allegedly drowned.

His body was recovered by State Disaster Response Force personnel. The deceased was one of three accused in the gang-rape of a 14-year-old girl, which occurred on August 22.
