Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh on Saturday warned of a potential attack by the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) ahead of Independence Day.

ULFA-I Planning Attack To Disrupt Celebration Of Independence Day: Assam DGP

The outlawed militant group is planning to undertake an attack in the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border area before Independence Day is celebrated.

GP Singh has been overseeing security measures in the ULFA-I stronghold of Upper Assam for the past four days.

“ULFA-I has been planning an attack to disrupt the celebration of Independence Day in Assam according to intelligence input. Along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh interstate boundary, a troop of the banned group is active,” he told reporters.

“The state police, army, and paramilitary forces are on high alert. Both state and Central governments are working closely to strengthen security measures in vulnerable areas,” GP Singh added.
