Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday hailed the introduction of three new criminal laws. The Chief Minister said that the new criminal laws are aimed at reshaping the country’s justice system.

“Today is a very important day in the nation’s journey to decolonize ourselves. We began this journey in 1947, and today, we have achieved a crucial milestone,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The newly introduced laws, collectively termed as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), are poised to revolutionize India’s criminal justice framework.
“During the colonial era, all three penal codes, CrPC were designed to continue with the punitive measure. Today, we have achieved a milestone where we have democratized our criminal laws, aligning them more closely with principles of fairness and justice,” the Chief Minister further added.
