Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies have set a target of securing 90-100 seats in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly.

In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the BJP contested 11 seats in Assam and won nine. Its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), contested two seats and won one, while the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) won the single seat it contested.
