Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on March 12 reiterated that his government remains steadfast in its stance against allowing uranium mining in the state.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister clarified, “Any organisation can communicate with the Government of India, but their views do not necessarily reflect the official stance of our government.”

He underscored that the Meghalaya government is resolute in its decision not to permit uranium mining without thorough consideration of public opinion and scientific assessments.

“We are very clear that without engaging the people, without comprehensive scientific evaluations, uranium mining will not be permitted in our state,” the Chief Minister asserted.

He emphasized the significance of this issue, stating that it concerns the well-being and future of Meghalaya’s residents.
