In a bid to decongest Guwahati, the Assam government is planning to shift the crowded shopping hub of Guwahati, Fancy Bazar to a new location.
Fancy Bazar Wholesale Market Likely To Be Shifted
Even though the government has not yet finalized the move, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Ashok Singhal said that they are short-listing locations outside the city. Palasbari, North Guwahati, Changsari, and Baihata are some of the possible locations for the same.
While speaking to media persons on the matter, Ashok Singhal said, “We have several proposals in hand to decongest Guwahati and one of them is shifting the wholesale market. We will implement the measures soon or else the residents of Guwahati will never be free from traffic congestion.”
“By shifting the wholesale market to a new location with attached parking lots and loading-unloading facilities, the number of commercial vehicles entering the city will be drastically reduced,” he added.
