Uniform Civil Code To Be Implemented In Assam By February 2024: CM Sarma

The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in Assam by February 2024. This was stated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

CM Sarma said that with the passing of the UCC in the state “no one would be allowed to have multiple wives”.

“We will introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). After that, if anyone wants to marry again, he will have to legally divorce his first wife,” said CM Sarma.

He made this statement while addressing an election campaign rally at Charminar in Hyderabad, Telangana.

The BJP in its manifesto for the Telangana Assembly elections has promised to implement the UCC in the state.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the UCC will be implemented in Telangana once the BJP forms government in the state.
