Murkroh Firing Incident Should Not Be Linked With Ongoing Border Dispute: HBDRF

Hynniewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum (HBDRF) in Meghalaya ‘warned’ officials of Government of Assam against linking Mukroh firing incident with ongoing border dispute talks.

Mukroh Firing Incident

The HBDRF said that Mukroh firing incident has no correlation with the ongoing border dispute resolution talks between Assam and Meghalaya.

The forum said that Mukroh is within the territorial jurisdiction of Meghalaya. Notably, any attempt to project it as part of Assam would be seen as an attempt to create confusion.

In this regard, HBDRF spokesperson Thomas Passah stated that the inquiry commission instituted by Government of Assam to probe Mukroh firing incident mentioned that Mukroh falls under the jurisdiction of Jrikyndeng Police Station.

Mukroh firing incident occurred on November 22 last year. The violence resulted in the deaths of six persons, including five from Meghalaya and one Assam forest guard staff.
