Raigad Landslide: Death Toll Increases To 26

The death toll due to the massive landslide in Maharashtra’s Raigad has increased to 26, reports emerged on July 22.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued four more bodies amid heavy rain on July 22. The rescue operations are still underway.

The tragic incident occurred around 11 pm on July 19 at Irshalwadi village in Raigad district. The Government of Maharashtra has decided to shift the residents of landslide-prone area to safer places.

To find out people trapped under the mud, the NDRF has deployed sniffer dogs in the site. At least 17 of 48 houses in Irshalwadi village were buried under the landslide debris.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his family members met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 22 and briefed him about the situation prevailing in Raigad.
