Assam: State Cabinet Decides To Enhance OBC Reservation Quota In Higher Education

The Assam Cabinet on July 12 has decided to enhance the reservation quota for Other Backward Class (OBC) communities in Higher Education (State Universities and Colleges) from 15 per cent to 27 per cent.

State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu took to Twitter to announce the decision made during the cabinet meeting.

The Cabinet decided to provide specific reservations to six communities – Tai Ahom, Chutia, Moran Matak, Koch Rajbangshi and Tea Tribes with the 27 per cent quota for OBC communities.

“Cabinet has decided to substantially increase the number of seats reserved for Six Communities – Tai Ahom, Chutia, Moran, Matak, Koch Rajbangshi and Tea Tribes in the Government Polytechnics and Engineering Colleges. This is within the 27% of seats reserved for OBCs. @CMOfficeAssam @higherednassam,” Pegu said on the microblogging platform.

In another notable development, the Cabinet also gave approval for the implementation of the ‘Sugam to Durgam’ scheme for better citizen-centric governance and service delivery.
