Assam: Tezpur University Planning To Start Defence Studies Department

In order to mark a milestone in the university’s commitment to fostering brilliance in national security education, Tezpur University located at Napaam in Tezpur is planning to start the Defence Studies Department.

Highest Executive Body Of Tezpur University Ratifies The Decision

It is mentioned the University’s Academic Council and Board of Management, the highest executive body of the University has already ratified the decision.

In this regard, an official of the varsity said, “The university can start the department once University Grants Commission (UGC) will approve the proposal.”

Vice-Chancellor Prof Shambhu Nath Singh met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on June 24. Prof Singh apprised the Defence Minister about the initiative. 

During the meeting, Prof Singh highlighted the importance of having a Defence Studies Department at Tezpur University since Tezpur is geopolitically located near China and the city has the presence of the Indian Army’s IV Corps and Defence Research Laboratory. 

The Defence Minister has assured of support from his Ministry. The Defence Studies Department will offer programmes designed to provide a holistic understanding of defence policy, strategic studies, military history, and intelligence analysis, among others.
