The Army Chief was accompanied by GoC-in-C Eastern Command Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita. Meanwhile, Army and Assam Rifles started a number of search operations in the early hours of May 27 in Kangchuk, Motbung, Saikul, Pukhao, and Sagolmang in order to find any armed rebels hiding in these locations.

New violence broke out between a group of people and suspected militants in a region bordering the troubled districts of Bishnupur and Churachandpur on May 25, leaving one person dead and another injured.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah pleaded with Manipur residents to uphold calm and announced that he will visit the state in a few days and remain for three days.

Due to the Manipur High Court ordering the state to follow a 10-year-old recommendation to grant the non-tribal Meitei community Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, there have been intercommunal confrontations in the state.
