The District and Session Judge, Kamrup (M), following an order for review from the Gauhati High Court, reviewed the death sentence it had given to Govind Singhal in the Shweta Agarwal murder case.

It is mentioned District and Session Judge now sentenced the convict to life imprisonment. Shweta Agarwal, a TDC 5th semester student at KC Das Commerce College, was murdered on December 4, 2017 by her boyfriend Govind Singhal.
Shweta Agarwal was murdered in his rented house at Bharalumukh in Guwahati. Govind Singhal had taken her to his rented residence on his bike on that day.
She was a bright student who stood first in the Higher Secondary Examination (Commerce stream) in 2015, conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council.
