Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 28 declared that Silsako Lake would soon be the largest lake in Guwahati.

In this regard, the Chief Minister posted a message on microblogging platform Twitter, “A stunning model of the projected Silsako lake has been designed, and it would contribute to the scenic grandeur and ease the perennial artificial flooding in Guwahati.”
Authorities in Guwahati removed some 300 native households and destroyed two temples on February 27 to prevent the encroachment of public land in the state.
It is mentioned at least 1,000 Police officers were stationed at Silsako Beel to clear up 132 acres of encroaching land. The drive was organised by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
