The Gaza Strip’s sole power plant has only 300,000 litres of diesel fuel left, which is just enough for it to run for 10-12 more hours, Palestinian Energy Authority Chairman Thafer Melhem told Voice of Palestine radio on October 11.

Israel on October 9 cut off its own electricity supply to Gaza Strip as part of what it called a “total siege” in response to a mass-infiltration by Palestinian gunmen.

Israel has stopped entry of food, medicine, and fuel into Gaza Strip. The sole remaining access from Egypt was shut down on October 10 after airstrikes hit near the border crossing.

All of Gaza Strip’s crossings are closed, making it impossible to bring in fuel for power plant or generators on which residents and hospitals have long relied.
