The ban on mobile internet services in Manipur has been extended till October 11. The decision came amid incidents of violence in some parts of the Northeastern state.

A notification issued by the Manipur Home Department on October 6 stated, “There is apprehension that some anti-social elements might use social media extensively for transmission of images, hate speech and hate video messages inciting the passions of the public which might have serious repercussions for the law and order situation in the state of Manipur.”
“There are still reports of violence like confrontation of the public with security forces, trying to mob an elected member, residences, civil protests in front of police stations etc,” the notification added.
The mobile internet services were restored in Manipur on September 23 after four months of violence and ethnic clashes.
