Sikkim Flash Floods: Death Toll Climbs To 18

At least 14 people reportedly died while 102 others, including 22 army personnel went missing on October 4 after a cloudburst over Lhonak Lake triggered flash floods in Teesta River basin in Sikkim.

As many as four more bodies have been recovered from flash floods-hit Himalayan state of Sikkim. The four bodies were recovered on the morning of October 5.

Reportedly, more than 3,000 tourists are feared to be stranded in different parts of Sikkim.

Under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary Rajib Gauba, the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) reviewed the situation in the state on October 4.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already deployed three teams. Additional teams are on standby in Guwahati and Patna.

An adequate number of teams and assets of the Army and Air Force were deployed to assist Sikkim in rescue efforts.
