Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has appreciated the Modi government’s stand on the Russia-Ukraine war, saying the country has “done the right thing by prioritising its sovereign and economic interests while advocating for peace”.

G20 Summit Should Not Be Treated As Forum For Settling Security-Related Conflicts: Manmohan Singh

The Congress veteran’s remarks assumed significance as world leaders arrived in Delhi for the G20 Summit which will be held from September 9 to 10.

The Russia-Ukraine war has been ongoing since February 2022. During an interview with Indian Express, the former Prime Minister addressed the changing international order, particularly in light of the Russia-Ukraine war.

“I believe India has done the right thing in putting our sovereign and economic interests first while also appealing for peace,” Manmohan Singh said, adding that the G20 Summit should not be treated as a forum for settling security-related conflicts and member nations and institutions should focus on policy coordination to tackle climate challenges, inequality and confidence in global trade.
