Assam: Over 500 People Hit By Flood Wave; Urban Flooding Witnessed In Silchar

Heavy rainfall for the last few days in the state has led to a flash flood like situation in three districts of Assam. Reportedly, over 500 people have been hit by the flood wave in the last 24 hours, said Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on June 12.

Around 10 Villages From Biswanath, Udalguri Affected

As per the ASDMA, around 10 villages from Biswanath and Udalguri districts were affected due to the flash floods with crop area of 150.00 (in Hectares) damaged.

Moreover, urban flooding was witnessed in Silchar at various localities including the National Highway. At least 575 people remain flood affected till Monday evening.

Seven infrastructure damage incidents were reported from two districts namely Biswanath and Darrang while five breaching of embankments were reported from the above mentioned districts in addition to one from Lakhimpur.

The ASDMA stated that no landslide event was witnessed in last 24 hours. There were reports of erosions from several localities in Barpeta, Biswanath, Darrang and Dhubri districts.
