As part of its ‘One Citizen One Tree’ campaign on World Environment Day, the Government of Meghalaya has been successful in enlisting the support of the state’s citizens, who have planted 15 lakh trees.

Meghalaya Government To Plant 5 Lakh Saplings

This year the Government of Meghalaya has set a goal to plant 5 Lakh trees in the lead-up to World Environment Day as part of Mission LIFE campaign.

Taking on Twitter, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed, ”As participants of GoI’s #MissionLIFE initiative, #Meghalaya has set a target to plant 5 Lakh saplings in the run up to #WorldEnvironmentDay together with students, community and departments. West Garo Hills District alone will plant over 75 Thousand saplings. Happy to plant a sapling in Tura today with Hon’ble Minister @ampareenlyngdoh.”

Sangma attended the Integrated Programme at Matchakolgre LP School playground in New Tura, West Garo Hills, with Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh. The event celebrated the outstanding performers among Garo Hills HSSLC and SSLC students.
