Renowned industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata on March 20 expressed confidence that manufacturing semiconductors in Assam will help put the state on the global stage after his group invested Rs 27,000 crore in order to set up a skill development centre within the premises of the semiconductor facility in Jagiroad.

Taking to microblogging platform X, Ratan Tata wrote, “The investments being made in Assam transform the state in complex treatment for cancer care. Today, the state government of Assam in partnership with the Tata group will make Assam a major player in sophisticated semiconductors.”
“This new development will put Assam on the global map. We wish to thank the Chief Minister of Assam Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for his support and vision that has made all this possible,” he added.
In response to Ratan Tata’s remark, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his gratitude, saying, “During my discussions with the Tata leadership, we agreed to establish a skill development centre within the premises of the semiconductor facility in Jagiroad.”
The Chief Minister underscored that this skill development centre will empower youth from the region by offering courses in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors and electronics.
