The Assam Cabinet has announced the approval the formation of a development council for Kiran Sheikh community, residing in the Barak Valley.

The cabinet meeting that was held on March 10 approved the formation of a development council for Kiran Sheikh community.
This move aligns with the formation of similar councils for other communities in the state. “The Kiran Sheikh community in Barak Valley had been demanding a development council for long. The cabinet has given approval for it, in line with such development councils for other communities,” Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah said.
The cabinet also approved the use of the Meitei script in primary education for the Manipuri language, he added.
