Assam DGP Assesses Security Measures At Dibrugarh Central Jail Following Recovery Of Prohibited Items

Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh conducted a visit to Dibrugarh Central Jail on February 20 to assess security measures following the recovery of spy cameras, smartphones, and other prohibited items from the NSA cell where Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh and his nine associates are lodged.

Accompanied by Dibrugarh District Commissioner (DC) Bikram Kairi and Superintendent of Police (SP) Shwetank Mishra, GP Singh inspected the premises of Dibrugarh Central Jail.

During routine inspection on February 17, authorities had seized several items including smartphones with SIM cards, keypad phones, TV remotes with keyboards, spy-cam pens, pen drives, bluetooth headphones and speakers and smartwatches.

Amritpal Singh was transferred to Dibrugarh Central Jail on April 23, 2024, after being arrested by Punjab police from Moga district. He has been charged under the National Security Act (NSA). Amritpal Singh’s nine associates, also detained at Dibrugarh Central Jail, have been charged under NSA.
