Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi was honoured with Assam’s highest civilian award ‘Assam Baibhav’ on February 13.

Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi Receives Assam’s Highest Civilian Award

Ranjan Gogoi was conferred the prestigious award by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at a ceremony held at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar was also present at the award ceremony as the chief guest. 

Ranjan Gogoi received the honour for his contributions in the field of justice and jurisprudence. He was the first CJI of the country who hailed from the Northeast region.

His role as the CJI became significant as he became the CJI who sat over the verdict in 2019 that paved the way for the foundation of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.
