The Meghalaya government has sought deployment of additional forces to bolster the border’s defenses in light of recent attempts to illegally enter Indian territory.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, after a crucial meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday, underscored the importance of tightening security measures along the international border.

“We have urged the Government of India, through the Union Home Minister, to consider deploying additional manpower along the border areas to reinforce security,” the Chief Minister stated.

Amit Shah assured that the situation would be closely monitored and necessary actions would be taken if required. The meeting, attended by Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, focused on reviewing the overall security scenario along the international border.

“The BSF and the Army are maintaining a strict watch on the international border, and Meghalaya police are also on high alert,” Sangma noted while adding “We have informed the Union Home Minister that no individual should be allowed to cross the border at this time due to the sensitive nature of the situation.”
