Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 6 hailed the Central government for its decision to fence the entire 1643-kilometer-long Indo-Myanmar border in Northeast.

Commending the Central government’s decision, the Assam CM said that this “bold decision which will have a huge stabilising impact on the Northeast region”.

“State-of-the-art fencing, shall also minimise incidents of cross border insurgency and infiltration through better surveillance,” the Assam CM said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on February 6 said that the Narendra Modi-led BJP government is ‘committed’ to build impenetrable borders.

Amit Shah said that the Central government has decided to construct a fence along the entire 1643-kilometer-long Indo-Myanmar border in Northeast. “To facilitate better surveillance, a patrol track along the border will also be paved,” the Union Home Minister said.
