The Assam government has denied permission to the Congress for taking out the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra through Guwahati city. This was claimed by the Congress on Saturday evening.
Commissioner’s Nod Sought For Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra In Guwahati
According to the Congress, the Guwahati police authorities informed that the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra traverse through the by-pass around the city.
The Police asked that the Yatra to go through areas along the Guwahati by-pass like – Khanapara, Basistha, Lokhra, Garchuk etc. “Even press club invitation will not be allowed,” the Congress said.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, was slated to interact with the public in Guwahati city. Rahul Gandhi’s public interaction in Guwahati city was to be held on January 23.
In a formal letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati city, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia sought permission for a roadshow and padayatra as part of the Yatra in the city.
Debabrata Saikia emphasized in the letter that the Yatra will pass through Guwahati city on its way from Morigaon district to Kamrup on January 23.
