Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) and Rajya Sabha MP Ranjan Gogoi would be conferred with Assam’s highest civilian award ‘Assam Baibhav’.

Ranjan Gogoi To Be Conferred With ‘Assam Baibhav’ Award

The announcement was made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing a press conference at Janata Bhawan on January 16.

Ranjan Gogoi served as the 46th CJI and the first to hold the post from the Northeast region. During his tenure, the Supreme Court pronounced the historic verdict on the decade-old Ram Janmabhumi-Babri Masjid title suit.

Ranjan Gogoi will receive a citation, certificate, medal and a cash award of Rs 5 lakh. This year, the Assam government has conferred the civilian awards to a total of 22 personalities, including four ‘Assam Saurav’ and 17 ‘Assam Gaurav’ awards.
