Ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) MLA Lalbiakzama on December 12 was unanimously elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
Lalbiakzama Named As Mizoram Legislative Assembly Speaker
The 58-year-old ZPM leader was elected to the state assembly for the first time from the Chalfilh assembly constituency.
Pro-tem Speaker Lalfamkima, who conducted the election to the Speaker, declared Lalbiakzama as elected unopposed as the opposition did not nominate any candidate for the post of the Speaker.
Before the Speaker’s election, the Pro-tem Speaker administered the oath to the newly elected members of the House.
Lalbiakzama said that he would maintain impartiality in the House. He urged the members to maintain decorum and follow the rules and procedure of the assembly to ensure that the state legislature continued to enjoy the reputation of one of the finest legislatures in the country.
