Mizoram Assembly Election Results 2023: CM Zoramthanga Resigns As ZPM Set To Form Next Government In State

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, who lost his own seat, has resigned following the Zoram People’s Movement’s (ZPM) decisive victory in the state assembly elections.

The ZPM has won 27 seats effectively ending the long-standing duopoly of the Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress in Mizoram.

Zoramthanga met Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on the evening of December 4, to formally tender his resignation after his party’s defeat. 

The MNF managed to secure only ten seats and was leading in three others, with several senior leaders.

ZPM’s Chief Ministerial candidate Lalduhoma emerged as the clear winner in the Serchhip constituency, securing a significant victory over MNF candidate J Malsawmzuala Vanchhawng.
