West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on November 23 took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying the Indian cricket team won all their matches in the World Cup except the final, which she claimed was attended by ‘sinners’.
West Bengal CM Takes Fresh Dig At BJP
Addressing Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata, the West Bengal CM stated the Indian cricket team would have won the World Cup if the final match was held in Kolkata or Mumbai.
“I can tell you if the (World Cup) final would have been in Eden (Gardens in Kolkata) or Wankhede (Stadium in Mumbai), we would have won. They (BJP) have given them saffron jerseys,” she said.
The West Bengal CM asserted that Indian cricket players resisted and they did not wear saffron-coloured jerseys during their matches. While Team India’s match jersey is of blue colour, the orange kit is worn during the practice sessions.
