Union Home Ministry Orders Repatriation Of Senior IPS Officer To Manipur Amid Fresh Protests

The Union Home Ministry has ordered the repatriation of senior IPS officer Rakesh Balwal to Manipur amid fresh protest as Manipur grapples with escalating violence following the abduction and killing of two Meitei students.

Balwal, presently serving as Senior Superintendent of Police in Srinagar, Rakesh Balwal, will now be deployed in Manipur to assist in addressing the ongoing law and order challenges, according to sources.

Violence broke out in Imphal after images of the bodies of Phijam Hemjit and Hijam Linthoingambi, who disappeared in July, surfaced online.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured him of the arrest and punishment of the culprits. The case is under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
