Tensions flared between India and Canada following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s explosive allegations of ‘potential’ involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020.

“We believe we have very credible intelligence that causes us to be deeply concerned and the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) have now initiated an investigation,” Blair said in an interview on Sunday.

When asked whether he was concerned about some of the measures adopted by India, he said, “I am concerned about the measures that they’re taking because we have a very significant Indo-Canadian population in this country, people who are connected to family and through business and other relationships to India.”

“And the only request we have made of our allies in India is that they cooperate fully in that investigation because its outcome is very important,” Blair added.
