The Assam government has officially acknowledged the presence of toxic magnesium carbonate in 43 pan masala brands during a recent Public Interest Litigation (PIL) hearing on September 12.

During the hearing, Advocate General Devajit Saikia made the startling admission on behalf of the state government, confirming the presence of toxic magnesium carbonate in these pan masala brands. 

In response to this revelation, the court has directed the state government to file an affidavit within a week.

The PIL has garnered significant concerns from the public about the safety of these products and their potential health risks to consumers.

The case has been scheduled for the next hearing on November 7, when further actions and investigations are expected to take place.
