Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has sanctioned the creation of 79 sub-divisions across the state, official sources said.
Geographical Limits Of Sub-Divisions To Be Co-Terminus With Boundaries Of Legislative Assembly Constituencies
These sub-divisions shall also be known as sub-districts within their respective administrative districts with immediate effect.
The geographical limits of the sub-divisions/sub-districts shall be co-terminus with the boundaries of Legislative Assembly Constituencies.
The powers and functions of the newly created sub-divisions/sub-districts will be the same as those of the existing sub-divisions at present.
Earlier in August, the state cabinet decided to create four new districts following the completion of the delimitation process. The districts to be created are Hojai, Biswanath, Tamulpur and Bajali.
