Manipur: Retired Army Officer To Handle Violence And Ethnic Clashes In State

Retired Army officer, Colonel Nectar Sanjenbam, who played a key role in India’s surgical strikes in Myanmar in 2015 has been tasked with tackling the unrest in Manipur.

The Manipur government on August 24 appointed Colonel (retired) Nectar Sanjenbam as Senior Superintendent of Police (Combat) in Manipur police department for a five-year tenure.

The state Home department created the post on August 28, citing a decision taken by the state cabinet on June 12. 

Manipur has been on the boil since May 3 after violence and ethnic clashes broke out in the state between Kukis and Meiteis.

Colonel (retired) Nectar Sanjenbam served in the 21 Para (Special Forces) and was awarded the Kirti Chakra, the second-highest peacetime gallantry award, and Shaurya Chakra, the third highest.
