Assam: Security Beefed Up As Militant Outfits Call For Boycott Of Independence Day Celebrations

Security has been tightened in Assam since United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA)-Independent (I) and NSCN/GPRN (National Socialist Council of Nagaland/Government of People’s Republic of Nagaland) have jointly called for boycotting Independence Day celebrations.

Regular Security Measures Undertaken By State Police

As per sources, regular security measures have been undertaken by the state police along with area domination and naka checking.

No chances are being taken after militant outfits called for boycott and bandh, sources said. Security personnel are looking into every aspect of security measures.

The main celebration will take place in Guwahati where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will hoist the National Flag. Earlier, on August 12, an email statement by the ULFA (I) asked people of Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh to ‘boycott’ Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

In addition, ULFA (I) and NSCN/GPRN have called for a bandh from midnight of August 15 till 6 pm that day, keeping emergency services, media operations and religious activities outside the purview of the shutdown.
