A team of Meghalaya Police has arrived at Dispur Police Station in Guwahati on July 19, in order to nab absconding coal mafias. It needs to be mentioned here the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2020 had filed a case to probe the alleged illegal coal trade from Meghalaya to Bangladesh via Barak Valley.
Meghalaya Cops Reach Dispur Police Station
According to sources, based on several cases lodged against the coal mafias in Meghalaya as well as in Assam, a huge team under the supervision of the Officer-in-Charge of West Khasi Hills arrived at Dispur Police Station to carry out an operation in the city to nab the coal mafias.
The Meghalaya Police had earlier carried out several operations in the city to nab notorious thugs. Earlier, in May 2022, a most wanted coal mafia was shot dead in an encounter by the Hailakandi Police.
The deceased coal mafia was identified as Abdul Ahad Choudhury. Ahad was apprehended from Sutarkandi in Karimganj district. “The coal mafia managed to escape from police custody when he was being taken to Lala civil hospital for medical checkup,” said a police officer.
