A middle-aged man died of ‘scrub typhus’ disease in Darrang district in Assam on June 2. His blood sample tested positive for the disease upon testing.

The deceased has been identified as one Hiren Saharia. Scrub typhus is also known as bush typhus. It is a disease caused by a bacteria called Orientia tsutsugamushi.

Scrub typhus is spread to people through bites of infected chiggers. The most common symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, body aches, among others.

The life-threatening disease occures when chigger mite bites a person. People who don’t get immediate medical treatment after the bite, lose their lives.
