It is noted the agitation will culminate on June 27 in a gathering of academicians in Guwahati. This was stated by Utpal Sarma and Sankar Jyoti Baruah, the President (in-charge) and Secretary of the AASU, respectively.

”We strongly oppose the government’s decision to teach mathematics and science in English, as it poses a threat to the preservation and development of Assamese, Bodo, and other regional languages. Since its announcement last year, we have consistently voiced our dissent,” they said.

Reportedly, all regional committees of the AASU will observe a 10-hour fast on May 31, followed by a gana satyagraha on June 6. The leaders asserted the need for comprehensive English language education for the students in vernacular schools.
