Cyclone Mocha Effect: IMD Warns Of Heavy Rainfall In Northeast India Till May 21

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Northeast India from May 17 to 21 due to Cyclone Mocha.

The IMD said in a press release, ”Light/moderate widespread rainfall very likely to continue over Northeast India during next 5 days with heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh during 19th to 21st, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during 17th to 21st May and isolated very heavy falls also likely over Meghalaya on 17th to 18th May 2023.”

It is to note the IMD has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall activity with lightning and gusty winds due to moisture incursion caused by strong low-level Southerly/ Southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India.

According to the IMD bulletin, ”Available data indicates that light to moderate rain occurred at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram and light rain occurred at many places over Tripura with isolated heavy falls over Assam during last 24 hours.”
