Contamination Of Bharalu River

Bharalu River is a major tributary of the Brahmaputra River. Bharalu River, during the monsoon season, deteriorates due to a lack of sufficient facilities and due to drainage water, and garbage has caused the river, turned into a drain, to deteriorate markedly.

The Gauhati High Court gave notice to the Assam government on May 11, ordering it to answer to the Suo Motu PIL by May 18.

Reportedly, the PIL was submitted by an ex-student of Guwahati’s Sonaram Higher Secondary School, which is located close to the Bharalu River.

Due to a lack of a sufficient drainage system, Guwahati becomes clogged during heavy rains. According to a study carried out by the Assam Pollution Control Board (APCB), Bharalu River and Bahini River pass through the most populated areas of Guwahati city.
