Centre Doesn’t Interfere With Freedom Of Press

Furthermore, the Union Minister stated in a written response to a question asked by Rajya Sabha MP Anil Desai, Press Council of India (PCI) has been set up under the Press Council Act, 1978 mainly to preserve the freedom of the Press and improve the standards of newspapers and news agencies in the country,

Notably, Anil Desai sought a response from the Union Minister if there were any restrictions on the use or misuse of freedom of expression in press.

Anurag Thakur further added freedom of speech and expression is a constitutionally guaranteed Fundamental Right to citizens under Article 19(1), with restrictions as stated in Article 19(2).
