Assam Government has passed a regulation banning the import of pigs to the state as a precaution against the spread of African Swine Fever.

It is mentioned this ban comes into effect immediately. The veterinary department has already issued advisories to all the concerned authorities.
Notably, the decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Atul Bora, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister, with senior officials in Janata Bhawan on March 11.
In this regard, Atul Bora wrote on microblogging site Twitter, “Govt of Assam has temporarily banned transportation of pigs & poultry to Assam from other states to prevent spread of ASF & Avian Influenza of poultry and protect interests of our local piggery & poultry farming.”
