National Human Rights Commission Asks Assam Government To Pay Compensation For Medical Negligence

The National Human Rights Commission asked the Assam Government to pay a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the next of kin of a boy named Raj Majumdar. As per the reports, the 16-year-old boy died due to medical negligence.

It needs to be mentioned Raj Mazumdar died on July 15, 2020 due to the negligence of the doctors of Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital, Golaghat.

The National Human Rights Commission directed the Assam Government through its Chief Secretary to show cause as to why a monetary compensation of Rs 3 lakh should not be recommended to be paid to next of kin of the deceased for the negligence of the hospital.

In this regard, the Joint Secretary to the Assam Government, Health & Family Welfare Department, stated Nitai Majumdar, father of Raj Majumdar, had himself said that there was a long queue of patients in the COVID testing centres and his son was unable to stand in the queue for long time. He took his son back home. He took his son to a nursing home in the evening where he was declared as brought dead.
